A facebook friend sent me a link to the civil rights agenda forwarded by the new Obama administration. Therein lies enough political fodder to keep the conservative blogosphere a buzz for months. Perusing the agenda I was struck with the thought that the democratic party has gone from being the party of slavery in the literal natural sense; to the party of a much more deadly and insidious form of slavery.
There are fifteen civil rights points that the administration seeks to tackle, of that fifteen only one could I throw my total support behind; the elimination of drug sentencing disparities. Of the fifteen, nine are gay rights issues. Which really emphatically points out the dramatic cross purpose nature of those who voted for president Obama, whilst voting for Prop 8 in California. The agenda clearly states that his administration will:
- Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: President Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples.”
At the same time, depending on who he was campaigning to, Mr. Obama stated publicly that he was against the concept of gay marriage, and that he believed that marriage should be between one man and one woman. We were told by the sycophantic media that one of the great things about Mr. Obama, was his nuanced approach to issues. Well; saying you believe that marriage should be a man/woman thing and then opposing that definition is a bit too nuanced for my backward conservative brain to grasp.
Not since the declaration by John Kerry that he was for the war in Iraq before he was against it, have we seen so nuanced a position. Perhaps nuanced is liberal newspeak for hypocrite. I don’t know Mr President; I’m just a conservative caveman, your new way of speaking without making sense frightens and confuses me.
But I find much in modern America puzzling, not only am I from a time when people said exactly what they meant, unless of course they were liars, but I thought that we were supposed to accept reality. I freely confess to being stunned by the enigmatical anachronism that was the inaugural benediction as rendered by Rev. Joseph Lowery which closed thusly:
“Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around … when yellow will be mellow … when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen.”
This while standing in front of a sea of humanity that represented all those contained in his colorful diatribe, yet composed mostly of white people. Which begs the question, if not now after witnessing the ascension of a black man to the highest elected position in the world, with the vast majority of those votes coming from white people, when?
In this case the reverend was not very reverent to those who primarily made the occasion possible with their guilt ridden, self flagellating votes to atone for a past they really had nothing to do with. Why should he be? They owe us.
This of course followed an invocation from Rick Warren offered to a nebulous god of inclusion, which was as fruitless as an apple tree in January. He was so busy trying to not offend anyone, he sent up a prayer that would not be heard if you believe what the Bible says about the proper way to offer a prayer. I’m just a Christian caveman, your many paths to the same place and amorphous god leave me baffled and disoriented.
Later in the morning I received from another facebook friend an article entitled: The Awakening of a Dumb (Gay) American. The article chronicles the journey a man who reminds us frequently that he is gay takes in understanding just how serious the war on terror and the intent of the jihadist to destroy us and our way of life is. It is the coming of age story of a liberal who suddenly recognizes that he has been blinded by his own ignorance and the MSM’s campaign to paint America as the cause of the hatred that lead to 911.
it is an interesting read, which like the president’s civil rights agenda, caused me again to reflect on spiritual bondage. The author of the article may be at the beginning of recognizing the flim flam the left has been peddling about the nature of Islam and America’s culpability in our being attacked. But he is still in bondage to sin.
The democrats are no longer laying the lash to the backs of literal slaves, but they have increased the pool of victims they draw from in their temporal subjugation, by leading the country further and further away from what made this nation great. A belief and dependance on the Creator God who sustains us. The democrats are redoubling their efforts to lead us into destructive lifestyles that place the heavy yoke of sin around the necks of it’s partakers.
Whether it be the democrats laissez-faire attitude and promotion of sexual sin, or the endorsement of life destroying “reproductive rights”, the propagation of victimhood, The elimination of God from the public square, or a myriad of other misguided pursuits, a slave master by any other name…
Well I’m Just a caveman If I am going to have a Master I prefer the one who says:
“All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:27-30
